The role of the front lights

Front lights generally include high beams, but also low beams. The front lights have the biggest role out of all the lights on a vehicle. Its main role is to illuminate the path ahead; its secondary role is to make the car visible in circumstances where visibility is poor. That is to say, at night during heavy rain during snow but also during fog. All circumstances that reduce the visibility of the road over 200 meters require the driver to turn on their front lights. They also have a third role, they make it possible to issue a signal in broad daylight or at night to overtake another vehicle for example or to warn by flashing headlights.

The standards that front lights must meet

The main headlights of a vehicle must comply with a set of strict regulations and standards.The aim of its regulations is to illuminate the road without hindering vehicles traveling in the other direction. The lights must therefore comply with standards on the intensity of the light, but also on the distance that the headlights must cover. The beam should illuminate up to 45 m. They must respect an inclination so as not to blind and dazzle vehicles in the opposite direction. The quality and material of the headlight must also be specially studied, in order to resist external aggressions, such as shock, humidity and UV rays from the sun.

Cleaning and changing your headlights

The front headlights must always be clean and sharp in order to maintain perfect light brightness. Headlights are the lights most exposed to the sun and projections, at some point, they will no longer have the same original shine. To remedy this, you can try cleaning your headlights yourself with special headlight renovator products. If you want to find them as in their original condition, you will need to go through a renovation specialist. If your headlight is cracked or broken, it must be replaced. The crack, however, can wait, but breaks are not tolerated because they alter the function of the headlight. Failure to have a front light or damaged lights can result in 4th category fines and a heavy fine.
