Flashing unit
Flasher unit
The indicator is a mandatory device on all vehicles traveling on the road (except for bicycles). It is also called a change of direction indicator.
The flashing frequency is recommended at 90 flashes per minute for good visibility in relation to other drivers. The light emitted by the indicator bulbs must not be dazzling and be orange in color. The fact that the driver can check the correct operation of the indicators using a control light is now mandatory.
How does the flashing unit work?
The flashing unit or the flashing relay is a useful device in managing the operation of the indicators and hazard lights.
When the driver activates the indicator or hazard light control, the flasher unit is subjected to an electrical voltage via the battery power supply. Passing through the flashing relay, the current thus redirected towards the bulbs has a particular characteristic which consists of delivering a voltage intermittently and regularly, which gives us the effect of flashing. The indicator relay system operating using a bimetallic strip is still widely used today: the bimetallic strip undergoes deformation as the current passes; which allows the circuit to open and cause a brief outage. Other models of flashing units operate using transistors.
