Insulated crimp terminals
INSULATED CRIMP TERMINALS
Terminals are small metal parts that serve a big purpose. They are present throughout a vehicle in various forms. It is used for all types of electrical connections for your equipment and accessories.
Presentation of an insulated crimp terminal
An insulated crimp terminal is part of a type of terminal intended for connecting wires or cables. They come in different forms inside a vehicle, but the principle remains the same. The principle of insulated terminals and blocking electrical wires using claws and preventing electricity and wires from dissipating electrical energy by castrating them in plastic insulation. Insulated crimp terminals are metal fittings for connecting to connectors. The terminal can be crimped using simple pliers, however there are special pliers created for this purpose. Insulated terminals are different from bare crimp terminals.
How to connect an insulated crimp terminal to your wires?
Connecting an insulated terminal to a wire is very easy. However, you will need to equip yourself with some essential tools. Unless you have crimping pliers, you must have pliers capable of stripping the wires without cutting them and flat pliers capable of tightening the hooks or claws of the terminal. In just a few steps, your connection will be made. To install the stock, you must first turn off all electrical contact. Subsequently, you must:
- Strip your wire or cable (you will need to strip it to the right size depending on the terminal.)
- Lock the wires in the compartment suitable for this purpose
- Pinch the claws or the receiver tube with pliers
- Reconnect the system and test the newly installed equipment
The ideal material for insulated terminals
They can be made from various metallic materials. They are generally made of copper, however, there are terminals made of brass or aluminum. These types of metals are specially selected for their property of being excellent electrical conductors, but also, because they are resistant to attacks such as humidity, corrosive products and greases. There are categories of lugs depending on the accessory or equipment to be installed. The main difference between lugs is the cable receiving diameter, but also the size or shape of the connection.
The categories of insulated terminals available on our site
We offer a complete range of terminals, which can be purchased individually, but also in boxes. Depending on the model sought, it is advisable to know the exact dimension of the lug, that is to say the diameter of the cable which will be fixed, but also the shape of the connection with which it will be attached. There are various insulated terminals depending on the shape of the input to be connected to the connector:
- Male and female
- crimp terminals
- tibular lugs
- Eye terminal
- terminal with heat-weldable and heat-shrinkable tip
The type of terminal sheath is insulated
The insulated terminal is the most used type of terminal, it is in fact the one which guarantees better insulation of the wires and the dissipation of electricity thanks to the sheath of which it is made. The insulating sheaths of the terminals can be simple or thermoformable (under the action of heat the sheath will tighten on itself. It can be an elastic element such as rubber or plastic. It also serves to protect the pod from rain and humidity and allows better grip of the pod.
